Grievance redress committees warned on poking their nose in criminal matters

Members of the different Grievance redress committees have been advised to avoid interfere with criminal related matters when handling their complaints in their jurisdictions. This has been during their training aimed at equipping them with the necessary guidelines to follow while executing their mandate.

The training has been conducted by the Municipal Principal Community Development Officer Ms. Diane Nabiwemba who urged Committee members to avoid engaging themselves in solving criminal related cases such as defilement and rape by the workers on the projects.

“Many people will come to you over a number of issues and all you need is to be good communicators, keep records of all cases you receive and avoid being judgmental and, never to entertain criminal cases such as rape and defilement” she said.

Participants include Project and Division Grievance Redress Committee members.

By Composition each committee is made up of nine members mandated to handle complaints from the project affected performs.

Currently there several projects going on in Kira Municipality under the funding of the World Bank and AFD through Greater Kampala Metropolitan Affairs Urban Development Project (GKMA-UDP) where its mandatory for each project to be with Grievance Redress Committees to handle complaints from the projected affected persons.
