Efforts to improve studying environment in Kira Schools: Kirinya Catholics, C/U given furniture
In the effort to improve the studying environment in Public schools in Kira Municipality the Municipality with funding from the Central Government through School Facilitation Grant (SFG) has given out furniture worth 17 million shilling to Kirinnya Catholic primary School and Kirinnya C/U both found in Bweyogerere Division.
Handing over the furniture to the beneficiary schools Hon. Rose Nakafeero Ssuka the Municipal Executive Secretary for Education and Health said that the needs in schools are many and cannot be addressed at once but the Municipal Council routinely improvise the available resources to handle the most pressing need. She said that all government aided schools in the Municipality have a number of needs which cannot be addressed by the Council alone and she praised religious institutions which have played a center role in providing land for school development, Rotary International and other development partners who significantly contributed by building classrooms, sanitary facilities and providing water tanks to different school.
“Our capacity as the Municipal Council to provide schools with necessary facilities is less as compared with the need on ground but with the funding from the Central government and development partners we manage to move on and we are grateful that at least we no longer have children sitting on the flow. Cases of congestion are there whereby you find about five children on a desk yet the desired condition would be three children” she said.
She urged Head teachers to squeeze from their small budget and save aside a percentage for repair and maintenance. “The cost of buying a new desk is too much and takes long given the procurement processes followed in buying goods and services but as compared to repairing and fixing the broken ones the process is cheaper in both time and finance and it’s my prayer that such is given attention instead of waiting when the Division or Municipality will supply the new ones”.
Micheal Senkusu the Municipal Education officer said that the Municipality has been building classroom Blocks and in partnership with external funders some schools have got Teachers houses though the need is still there. “We have much on the shoulders but we only handle what the resource envelop can allow. Kirinnya Catholic and Kirinnya C/U of recently got Classroom blocks but they haven’t been furnished and so we had to give them priority so that the classrooms can be put to use”.
Kirinnya Catholic Primary school is having over 1,250 pupils and according to while Kirinnya C/U having over 1400 pupils.
